News: Mobile Command Vehicle Arrives In Stevens County, Washington
News Release October 23, 2009 Mobile Command Vehicle Arrives In Stevens County The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the arrival of a new Mobile Command Vehicle, which has been funded by a federal border protection grant. The Sheriff’s Office applied for, and received the grant award, that provided funding to designated localities to enhance cooperation and coordination between law enforcement agencies in a joint mission to secure the United States land borders. The cost of the vehicle and equipment was just over $210,000.00. The grant (“FY 2008 Operation Stonegarden”) assists in bridging the distinct capability enhancements required for border security and border protection. Stevens County is an international border county. The goal is to achieve a greater capability to prevent, protect against, and respond to border security issues. The vehicle is a state-of-the-art, thirty foot long, four-wheel drive unit that is built on a Chevrolet C5500 chassis. It is equipped with the latest VHF radio and satellite technology, including on-scene weather monitoring capabilities. The vehicle is also capable of fully independent operations including power, water, and personnel support facilities. It will be an excellent equipment addition in the rural and remote areas of Stevens County. The new Mobile Command Vehicle will assist the Sheriff’s Office in our continued joint operations with the Colville U.S. Border Patrol Station. Along with border protection operations, the vehicle will also be used throughout the county for a wide range of events, including major crime scenes, hazardous materials releases, floods, wildfires, winter storms, and community education opportunities.
